King Charles Shown Tattoo of Late Queen During Canada Visit

King Charles III received a surprising tribute on the first day of his two-day visit to Canada, as a fan revealed a tattoo of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Accompanied by Queen Camilla, the King was greeted by enthusiastic crowds and experienced Canadian culture firsthand, including a spirited game of street hockey and a warm welcome from Indigenous communities.

The royal couple’s visit is widely seen as a gesture of support and a reaffirmation of the close relationship between the United Kingdom and Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney, who accompanied the royals for part of their visit, described King Charles’ upcoming role in the state opening of Canada’s Parliament as a “historic honour” that reflects the gravity of current times.

During a walkabout in the Canadian capital, King Charles encountered Annie Riendeau, 50, from Montreal, who proudly showed him a tattoo of Queen Elizabeth II’s EIIR cipher inked on her inner forearm. She made a touching vow to the King, saying: “I’m going to get one for you too, soon.”

In another highlight of the day, King Charles dropped the puck to start a street hockey game at Lansdowne Park, a lively public event attended by locals cheering “Welcome home” and “God save the King.”

Mr. Carney and his wife, Diana Fox Carney, served as gracious hosts, introducing the King and Queen to local vendors and exhibitions that celebrated the rich diversity and cultural heritage of modern Canada.

Ahead of the visit, Mr. Carney released a statement emphasizing the significance of the royal connection, stating:

“The Royal Visit is a reminder of the bond between Canada and the Crown — one forged over generations, shaped by shared histories, and grounded in common values.”

He continued:

“Tomorrow, His Majesty King Charles III will deliver the Speech from the Throne in the Senate Chamber, nearly 70 years after Canada’s Sovereign first opened Parliament.”

Calling it a moment of great national significance, Carney added:
“This historic honour matches the weight of our times. It speaks to our enduring tradition and friendship, to the vitality of our constitutional monarchy and our distinct identity, and to the historic ties that crises only fortify.”

The visit is not only symbolic but a reminder of the evolving and resilient bond between Canada and the Crown.
