The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a public warning about two tattoo ink products found to be contaminated with harmful bacteria.
The affected products, sold under the brand name Sacred Tattoo Ink, include:
Raven Black (CI No. 77266; Lot No. RB0624; Best Before: June 28, 2027)
Sunny Daze (CI No. 21095; Lot No. SD1124; Best Before: Nov 1, 2027)
According to the FDA, both inks have been contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other dangerous microorganisms. These bacteria can cause serious infections, especially when injected into the skin during tattooing. Possible health risks include rashes, lesions, and potentially permanent scarring.
The agency cautions that symptoms of infection may resemble allergic reactions, which can complicate and delay proper diagnosis and treatment.
The FDA is urging consumers, tattoo artists, and retailers to immediately stop using or selling these two ink products. Consumers are also advised to ask tattoo artists about the inks they use before getting tattooed.
In response, the FDA is coordinating with manufacturers and retailers to remove the contaminated products from circulation and prevent further exposure.
